Orange County, CA — A 32-year-old- bicyclist has been awarded a settlement that is being billed as “one of the largest bicycle accident settlements in Orange County history,” at $6 million, reported the OC Register.

The bicyclist was injured after being involved in an accident with a shuttle bus near the John Wayne Airport.

Under the terms of the settlement those involved in the case remain confidential.

On November 12, 2009, the airport shuttle bus pulled out in front of the cyclist, running over the man and fracturing his pelvis in several places. The bicyclist was left with chronic pain in his neck, back and pelvis, and other internal injuries as a result of the accident.

The driver of the shuttle says he did not see the bicyclist and failed to yield.

The defendant argued in court that the bicyclist was impaired at the time because he had taken several doses of Xanex and marijuana.

In addition, the defendant asserted that the accident took place at night and the cyclist was wearing dark clothing with no reflective safety features.
