Cheyenne, WY — A coal mine accident in the Power River Basin left a contractor dead Thursday, September 1, 2011. The mining accident occurred around midday at the Peabody Energy owned North Antelope Rochelle Mine, reported CNBC.
The details surrounding the fatal accident have yet to be released, but the Campbell County Coroner identified the victim as 29-year-old Cody Alwin Brown, of Spearfish, S.D.
Brown was reportedly an employee of Weston Engineering, a water well drilling and hydrogeology consulting firm.
This mining accident is at least the fourth workplace death to occur in Wyoming in less than a week. Three oilfield workers were killed in an explosion on Monday. But, this is the state’s first coal mine fatality since a 2008 truck accident in the Wyodak coal mine near Gillette.
Wyoming has one of the nation’s highest rates of fatal workplace accidents, CNBC reported.
Investigations into the latest mining accident are underway.
