23 People Injured in ‘Low-Speed’ Pace Bus Accident

Chicago, IL — A “low-speed” two-vehicle collision involving a Pace bus sent 23 people to the hospital Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 2011. The bus accident took place at the intersection of West Corcoran Place and North Mayfield Avenue in the Austin neighborhood around 4 p.m., reported NBC Chicago.

According to Pace officials, a vehicle hit the Pace bus while making a right turn from West Corcoran Place onto North Mayfield Avenue. Officials noted, “It was a real low-speed collision.”

Initially everyone reported that they were fine, but when an ambulance arrived at the scene 23 people decided that they wanted to be checked out. Responding emergency crews transported 15 people in fair condition and eight people in good condition to local hospitals. Three of the hospitalized victims were reportedly children. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

Officials stated that the crash was a “fender-bender,” which primarily consisted of scratches, paint transfer and a broken headlight.

Police have classified the traffic accident as “property damage only.”

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating the bus accident.
