Arnold, PA — Two construction workers were rushed to the hospital after a building that was under construction partially collapsed on Monday, August 29, 2011. The construction accident took place in the 1300 block of Third Avenue at the future home of L&L Roofing Inc. at about 2 p.m., reported PittsburghLive.com.
According to officials, two laborers were standing on the wooden trusses as a crane loaded a pallet of roofing plywood on top of the trusses, when the weight of the plywood caused the trusses to collapse and a wood-framed wall to fall into the crane.
Witnesses stated that the men fell about 20 feet to the concrete floor below.
WPXI Pittsburgh reported that one victim suffered a head injury and the other sustained a back injury.
Responding emergency crews responded to the scene and removed the injured men from the building, before transporting them to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Investigations into the construction accident are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct their own investigation into the construction accident.
