Tampa, FL — An industrial accident at the Pepsi-Cola plant left a worker with serious injuries on Sunday, August 28, 2011. The industrial accident took place just after 11:31 a.m. at the facility located at 11314 North 30th Street, as reported by My Fox Tampa Bay.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the unidentified worker was found pinned under a conveyor belt. It is unknown what led the man to become trapped in the machinery.
Rescue crews worked for approximately 90-minutes before they were able to free the injured man.
The seriously injured worker was airlifted by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Investigations into the industrial accident are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct an investigation as well.
This industrial accident marks the second serious accident to occur at the Pepsi-Cola plant this year. A contract worker from Pennsylvania was killed when an automated storage and retrieval system collapsed on March 11.
