Madison, WI– Fiskars® SmartPower™ String Trimmers by Friskars Brands are being voluntarily recalled by Friskars and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) over burn, laceration and fire hazards the defective product poses to consumers. The CPSC announced the nationwide product recall on August 23, 2011.
The CPSC product recall was issued after discovering that the engine vibration during use of the trimmers can cause wear on the fuel line, which can cause a propane fuel leak. The Straight Shaft Trimmers’ propane canister can also crack at the neck during use. In addition, high temperatures may develop near the Curved Shaft Trimmers’ plastic cutting guard, causing the guard to deform and fall off. These defective features pose a burn, fire and laceration hazard to consumers.
“This recall involves the Fiskars® SmartPower™ Propane 4-Cycle Straight Shaft String Trimmer Model 67016935 and SmartPower™ Propane 4-Cycle Curved Shaft String Trimmer Model 67036946. Both trimmers use propane fuel. ‘SmartPower™’ is printed on the lower shaft and near the pull-start handle. ’Fiskars®’ is printed on the engine cover and on the plastic cutting guard. The trimmers are black, silver and orange,” reported the CPSC.
Consumers are advised to contact Fiskars® to receive a full refund.
