Greensboro, NC — A carnival worker is dead and another was critically injured, while they were disassembling a Ferris wheel early Monday morning, May 16, 2011. The workers fell from the ride at 1:53 a.m., at the Greensboro Youth Council’s carnival in the parking lot of the Greensboro Coliseum, reported Digtriad.com.

According to Greensboro police, the carnival workers were taking apart the carnival rides, when a cable broke that was supporting bucket-style lifts the men were in. The snapped cable caused a pendulum motion, before the men fell to the ground.

Both men were in individual buckets in different locations.

Police identified the man killed as 42-year-old Michael Douglas Cook of Columbus, Ga. He was in the higher of the two buckets.

The injured worker has not been publicly identified. He sustained critical injuries in the accident.

The workers were employed by James H. Drew Exposition of Augusta, Ga.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the work-related accident.

Investigations are ongoing.
