West Palm Beach, FL — A bus crash at Lake Worth Community High School was cause when a Palm Beach County School District bus driver lost control of her bus, after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2011, reported The Palm Beach Post.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s officials, the school bus driver, who remains unidentified, was headed south on A Street, when she experienced a heart attack and subsequently lost control of the bus at around 6:25 a.m.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Churchill, head of the Traffic Homicide Unit said, the woman drove through the hedges and through a fence in front of the high school. The bus then drove around a pole and through the fence again.
The female bus driver, who is in her 50s, was rushed to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis by responding emergency crews. She was reportedly in critical condition.
A bus aide and possibly one other person were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. It is unknown if anyone else suffered injuries.
Investigations into the school bus crash are underway.
