Buck Creek, IN — Investigators are on the scene of a fatal construction accident, where two workers were killed when they fell from a radio tower near Buck Creek. The accident occurred near County Road North 900 East and East 600 North on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at around 9 a.m., reported WLFI
According to Tippecanoe County Deputy Coroner Tony Kenner, a crew of five men were installing a radio tower when two of the workers at a height of 340 feet, fell with a piece of equipment that was being used to install another segment to the tower.
Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s officials identified the two victims as 32-year-old Paul Aliff of Mesquite, Texas, and 29-year-old Ernest Garcia of Laredo, Texas. They both were fatally injured in the fall.
The men were reportedly apart of a work crew from ERI, Inc. of Chandler, Indiana.
The radio tower the men were working on was a WXXB radio tower, which is a local FM radio station that plays recent hits. It is one of five Lafayette stations owned by Schurz Communications.
Investigators with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) will be arriving at the scene to conduct a full investigation into the accident.
