San Antonio, TX—A 44-year-old oil field worker was killed on Monday, February, 21, 2011. The work-related accident occurred around noon in a Midland County oil field, reported the Seguin Gazette Enterprise.
According to police officials, Ronnie May and another worker were working on a pipe rack and moving drilling collars when the pipes suddenly slipped. May became trapped in between the pipes and sustained life-threatening injuries.
Responding emergency crews rushed May to Midland Memorial Hospital for treatment, but he died upon arrival. May’s co-worker reportedly sustained a leg injury in the accident.
A full investigation is underway. It was not reported if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the work-related accident.
May had been working at oil fields owned by Tulsa, Okla.-based Helmerich & Payne Inc. for the past five years.
