Seneca Falls, NY— The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and ITT Water Technology, Inc., have voluntarily recalled about 21,000 sump pumps and effluent pumps over shock and electrocution hazards. The CPSC announced the recall on January 6, 2011.
The recall was initiated after discovering that the sump pumps installed without ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection can create an electric shock or electrocution hazard if touched by the consumer. The CPSC warned, “IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU HAVE ONE OF THE RECALLED PUMPS AND IT IS PLUGGED IN, DO NOT TOUCH IT, THE WATER AROUND IT OR THE SURROUNDING FLOOR AREA.”
The CPSC reported, “The recall involves Goulds, RedJacket and Bell & Gossett Pumps used in residential applications to pump wastewater and sewage. The pumps are sky blue or red and display the brand names Goulds, Red Jacket or Bell & Gossett. These pumps were installed in new construction or as replacement pumps between December 2009 and July 2010.” The models involved in the recall include:
• Goulds: ST, PE, PS, PV, GWP, SDSST
• Red Jacket: RSC, REP, RWW, RVW, RWP, RSDSST
• Bell & Gossett: SC, 1EC, 2WC and 2VW, MWP and MSDS
Consumers are advised to immediately contact ITT Water Technology at toll-free (866) 325-4204. A technician will be sent to your home to repair or replace the pump.
