Marion County, OH—A two-vehicle Waldo Township crash sent three people to area hospitals Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010. The injurious motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23, south of Ohio Route 98, according to information provided by NBC4.
Reports indicated Michael J. Koon, a 59-year-old Columbus resident, was driving a 1995 Ford F-Super Duty, which was towing a portable cement mixer, when he pulled over to change a flat tire. Upon changing the tire, Koon hopped back into his truck and swiftly tried to merge back into the southbound lanes of U.S. 23.
Failing to yield to southbound traffic, the driver of a 1997 Mazda Protégé was seemingly unable to avoid a collision with the Ford. The Mazda, driven by 18-year-old Prospect resident, Shawn A. Miller violently rear-ended the Ford around 5:50 p.m.
The impact caused a female passenger in the Mazda, 37-year-old Kim Morrison, of Delaware, to become trapped in the wreckage. Once emergency medical services (EMS) personnel managed to free her, she was airlifted to Grant Medical Center.
Although Morrison suffered serious injuries in the wreck, they were not deemed to be life threatening. She was listed in stable condition at the hospital.
Both Koon and Miller were rushed to Delaware-based Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
While reports did not specify if any charges were expected in connection with the Waldo Twp. collision, investigations were expected to be underway.
