Denver, CO—A two-vehicle collision, involving a school bus filled with Smiley Middle School students, left seven children with injuries on Thursday, December 2, 2010. The automobile accident occurred at 29th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, at around 4:30 p.m., as reported by 9News.com.
Denver Fire officials reported that the accident was not serious, but seven children complained of injuries and were transported to the hospital by responding emergency crews. The victims were taken to Denver Health Medical Center where they are listed in fair condition.
One child on the bus said a minivan was backing out of a parking lot onto Colorado Boulevard and hit the bus. “Our bus hit his car and he spun and he went on the other side of the street. And then our tire fell off and our bus shut off automatically,” Ashana Hopkins, an eighth grader said.
There were 29 children on the bus at the time, who were returning home from an after-school program.
Investigations are underway.
