Miami, FL—A University of Miami student was involved in a hit-and-run accident Sunday evening, November 14, 2010, consequently landing him in the hospital with critical injuries, according to information provided by JustNews.com. After the injurious crash occurred, the victim’s family flew from Maryland to Miami, where they issued a public plea to help find the hit-and-run driver.

“Please help us with any information at all that you think would be pertinent to this case… You can’t even imagine. It’s a parents worse nightmare to get the call we got last evening,” said Betsey Jones, mother of 21-year-old UM junior Jared Paul Jones.

Reports indicated an unidentified man was driving his silver sedan, possibly an Oldsmobile, northbound on Red Road when he slammed his vehicle into Jones. The pedestrian-involved accident occurred in the 4500 block of Red Road.

Witnesses contended the motorist, whom they described as an elderly man, stopped briefly before speeding away.

While a partial tag number of X64 was taken from the hit-and-run driver’s license plate, Coral Gables Police Officer Kelly Denham noted, “We don’t know if that’s the first three or last three numbers.”

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel rushed Jones to Jackson Memorial Hospital via medical helicopter. He suffered unspecified injuries and was listed in critical condition at the medical center.

Witnesses and/or any other individuals with information concerning the hit-and-run accident are urged to contact the Coral Gables Police Department.
