Provo, UT— The construction worker who was killed by an excavating machine bucket, which came loose and landed on his chest, has been identified by Spanish Fork police. Ricardo Carmona, 31, of Kearns, was killed while installing a sewer line near 700 N. Lynnbrook (110 East), as reported by the Salt Lake Tribune.
As previously reported in “Spanish Fork UT Construction Accident: Man, 31, Killed by Trackhoe Bucket,” Carmona was unconscious, but breathing when he was pulled from the manhole, but he tragically succumbed to his injuries while being prepped to be airlifted to the hospital.
Police officials say that Carmona and two other workers were working in a manhole as a excavator was breaking up concrete. The excavator suddenly became unstable, which caused it to drop its bucket into the manhole and onto Carmona’s chest.
No criminal charges are expected to be filed.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the medical examiner are investigating the fatal construction accident.
