Danville, AL—Hunter Safety System, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled Carabiners due to fall hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 16,000 units, on Oct. 27.

The defective product recall was initiated after the company discovered that pins in the carabiners have the potential to detach. If this happens, the climbing strap will separate from the safety harness, consequently leaving the consumer at risk of fall-related injuries.

While the Danville-based manufacturer received word of two incidents in which the carabiner pins detached, no falls or injuries have been reported as of yet.

According to the CPSC news release, “The 2010 Year HSS Ultra-Lite carabiners were supplied with the HSS-300 Ultra-Lite full body climbing safety harness. The carabiners are black with a pin sticking out of the gate. They have “CB20101” stamped on the side opposite the gate.”

The hazardous product was made available for purchase at outdoor hunting retailers, as well as directly from the company, via telephone or Internet (www.huntersafetysystem.com). The carabiners were sold from June 2010 through September 2010 and cost about $100.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the dangerous carabiners and return them to Hunter Safety System for a complimentary replacement. The company can be reached toll-free at (877) 296-3528 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT, or online at www.hssvest.com.
