Miami, FL—A work-related accident inside a South Beach condominium on Monday, October 11, 2010, left a worker dead when an elevator crushed him. The fatal accident occurred at the Ocean Point Condo, located at 345 Ocean Drive, as reported by CBS 4.

Miami Beach Fire Chief Javier Otero reported that two people were working on an elevator inside the condominium, when the accident occurred. One man was inside the elevator, when another climbed out of the top of the elevator, into the shaft for unknown reasons. The elevator then suddenly began to move, causing the worker to be crushed between the shaft wall and the elevator in between the fifth and sixth floors.

The workers body remained wedged in the shaft for over three hours following the deadly accident.

Technicians from Otis Elevator Company were sent to the scene to help officials remove the body.

It is unknown what caused the accident or what the workers were doing at the time.
