Tulsa, OK—A miner was killed at a Kentucky coal mine, marking Alliance Resource Partners’ third mining fatality this year. The fatal mining accident occurred on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 around 8:00 a.m. at the River View operation, as reported by Tulsa World.

According to officials, James Jeffrey Falk, 39, of Slaughters, Ky., was killed when he was hit by a shuttle car. The shuttle cars are used to transport coal at the mine.

Officials are still investigating why the shuttle car fatally hit the worker.

Operations at River View have been stopped until investigations are complete. U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration and Kentucky mining officials are at the scene and are conducting investigations.

This deadly accident marks the third fatal mining accident this year for Alliance. On April 28, two miners were killed after a roof collapsed at the Dotiki Mine in Kentucky.

This is also the sixth mining fatality in Kentucky in 2010; in addition to over 40 miners who have been killed this year in on-site accidents in the U.S.
