San Mateo, CA—A Friday morning, October 8, 2010, construction accident left a worker dead, when he plummeted from a beam at a shopping center that is under renovations. The fatal construction accident occurred outside a building on the 800 block of North Delaware Street at around 10 a.m., as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.
The victim was identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Cristobal Reyes-Segura, age 23.
Reyes-Segura was reportedly on a beam at the construction site when he suddenly fell an unknown number of feet. Officials also reported they are unsure what he was doing at the time of the fall.
Reye-Segura was employed by a subcontractor working on the renovation project.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the fatal construction accident.
The manager of the general contractor on the job, Brett Mykrantz of SD Deacon-Corp. said, “Our goal is to assist our subcontractor’s family and crew during this difficult time…grief counselors have been sent to help workers deal with the young man’s death.”
A full investigation is underway.
