Minnesota links King Nut peanut butter to 42 states salmonella outbreak

JusticeNewsFlash.com–The Minnesota Department of Health confirms King Nut salmonella tainted peanut butter matches the strain of salmonella which has infected over 400 people across the country since September 2008. According to the Washington Post, Minnesota health officials performed lab tests on the tainted King Nut peanut butter and found a genetic match to the salmonella strain causing wide spread infection across 42 states since last fall.

Justice News Flash reported last week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) www.cdc.gov and health officials across the country had formed a task force to determine the source of the nationwide outbreak of salmonella poisoning. Yesterday, AmericanInjuryNews.com reported the King Nut Company of Solon, Ohio, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov had initiated a voluntary recall of two peanut butter brands distributed by the company. One of their five pound tubs of peanut butter sold to a long term care facility was found to be positive for salmonella poisoning. Peanut butter manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America in Lynchburg, Virginia, makes King Nut and Parnell’s Pride peanut butters for the King Nut Company.

Their are over 2,500 types of salmonella bacteria in the U.S. And Minnesota health officials confirmed the salmonella to be the most common strain, Salmonella Typhimurium. The CDC says this strain is typically found in uncooked egg and meat products. This multi-state salmonella outbreak and the King Nut peanut butter recall is occurring two years after the Peter Pan brand peanut butter recall. Peter Pan was linked to a 47 state salmonella outbreak linked to over 625 infections.
