Zanesville, OH—A violent motor vehicle accident involving a car and school bus left 10 people, including nine students, injured. The head-on collision occurred on State Route 146 in close proximity to Blackrun Road Monday, September 20, 2010, according to information provided by 10TV News.
Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) troopers reported Donald E. Binckley III was driving his car eastbound on S.R. 146 when he veered into the path of a westbound school bus. Upon doing so, his car slammed head-on into a Tri-Valley Local School bus after 7 a.m.
Nine students were riding the bus at the time. Seven of those students were taken to Zanesville-based Good Samaritan Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Two others were transported to Columbus-based Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Their injuries were also non-life threatening.
The driver of the car involved, on the other hand, suffered critical injuries. Binckley was airlifted to Columbus-based Grant Medical Center via medical helicopter.
Neither the driver of the school bus nor the teacher’s aide aboard the bus suffered any injuries in the bus crash.
While the cause of the bus-involved collision remains unknown, a full investigation is expected to be underway.
