Bakersfield, CA—A man who was hit by three cars early Monday morning, August 23, 2010, tragically died as a result of his traumatic injuries. The man was hit and killed along Oswell Street in East Bakersfield, at around 3:30 a.m., as reported by TurnTo23.com.
The Bakersfield Police Department reported that Dallas Edward Crosby, 79, was in the middle of the street when the first car struck him.
The driver of the car reportedly stopped and tried to help Crosby, when another small, white compact car struck Crosby again. But the white car fled the scene. The car was last seen getting on westbound Highway 58.
A third car then came along and hit Crosby too. The driver of the third car did stop to help as well. Responding police officials pronounced Crosby dead at the scene.
The BPD stated that the severity of the accident was likely caused by the dark stretch of road, and the fact that Crosby was wearing dark clothing and was in the middle of the roadway.
BPD officers say alcohol did not appear to be a factor between the two drivers who stopped. They are unsure about the other driver who fled the scene.
Authorities are asking anyone who saw the accident to call police at 661-327-7111.
