Burlington, KY—A Burlington man suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle crash Saturday, August 28, 2010, just hours before he was scheduled to say, ‘I do.’ The victim’s fiancé alleged the unfortunate bike-car collision occurred as the groom-to-be was en route to his mother’s house, according to information provided by WLWT.

Gregory Landrum, 25, was riding his motorcycle Saturday afternoon, when he smashed into a vehicle that was making a left turn across Rogers Lane. Landrum was killed in the accident.

According to Boone County Assistant Chief Rob Butcher, “Obviously, the two vehicles never saw each other and it was one of those scenarios where I think it was too late for either of them to react.”

“It’s awful. It’s tragic. You look at the lives that are affected and the life that he and his fiancé were going to have together,” Butcher added.

Landrum was apparently on his way to his mother’s house to see his groomsmen and prepare for his wedding. Landrum’s fiancé, Summer Benke, was reportedly on her way back from the hair salon when she heard the tragic news.

Tommy Baker, executive pastor at the First Church of Christ, noted, “Right now, the bride and groom should be in Hawaii celebrating their honeymoon and yet the bride is having to make preparations for a funeral.”

Landrum is survived by Benke and their 2-year-old daughter, Alexis.

Reports did not specify whether any citations were issued after the fatal motorcycle accident.
