Los Angeles, CA—For Mel Gibson, when it rains it pours as he added another headache to his laundry list of problems. In the latest incident, the infamous actor lost control of his 2008 Maserati Quattroporte and crashed it into a rocky hillside in Malibu Canyon, as reported by the New York Daily News.
Sunday night, August 15, 2010, at around 8:35 p.m., Mel Gibson crashed his car in a rural area of the Malibu Canyon. Gibson, the sole occupant of the car, called for help following the wreck.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrived at the scene, where they discovered that Gibson was not under the influence of alcohol, unlike his now notorious 2006 DUI arrest, in which he erupted into an anti-Semitic rant.
Gibson claimed that he was not talking or texting on his cell phone at the time of the crash. According to California laws, it is illegal to handle your cell phone, whether texting or using a non-hands free device while driving.
CHP Officer Leland Tang told the Daily News, “He doesn’t know how the vehicle drifted. If your familiar with that roadway, if you sneeze the wrong way, your vehicle could drift…He was very cooperative and respectful. There were no symptoms of intoxication or impairment.”
Gibson was uninjured in the wreck, but his high-performance car suffered “moderate” damage.
