Newton, IA—A violent and deadly three-vehicle accident on Interstate Highway 80 left six people dead, including two children. Three others were also injured during the Saturday morning, August 14, 2010 wreck near Colfax, reports the Des Moines Register.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, a minivan was traveling westbound when it struck a semi-truck. The collision then caused the van to cross the median, and slam head-on into an eastbound vehicle.

Police officials believe the driver of the minivan, Do Taw, 19, of Utica, N.Y., may have fallen asleep, causing the accident.

Four passengers riding in the minivan were killed in the crash. The deceased were identified as Hai Seu Moo, 18, of Albany, N.Y., Ba Du La, 20, of Utica and Toh Toh, 29 of Pittsburgh. The identity of the fourth victim, a 6-year-old passenger, is being withheld by authorities.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, Kenneth Payetta, 41, of Whitby, Ontario and a 16-year-old passenger were also killed in the crash.

The minivan driver, Taw, and two passengers, Ku Lu, 28, of Utica, and a 14-year-old child were rushed to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries acquired in the crash. The 14-year-old victim is reportedly in critical condition.
