Orange, MA—Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to probe a deadly Franklin County, Mass. plane crash that claimed the lives of two people aboard the aircraft. The fatal aviation accident occurred Tuesday, August 10, 2010 around 9:10 p.m., according to information provided by the Associated Press.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesperson Jim Peters stated a single-engine plane, registered to an Elliot City man, took off from Orange Municipal Airport but crashed in a wooded area shortly after its departure.
The aircraft, a Cessna 172, was en route to Maine at the time, though a specific destination was not yet known. Two people who were aboard the plane when it went down suffered fatal injuries in the aircraft wreck. Officials have not released the victims’ identities.
While NTSB officials are working to determine the cause of the aviation accident, Cessna Aircraft Co. (based in Wichita, Kansas) asserted Cessna 172’s are known for their “reliability” and “predictable flight characteristics.” The Cessna 172 also apparently has a reputation for being the most popular training airplane in the world.
Investigations into the unfortunate Massachusetts plane crash are expected to be underway.
