Dallas, TX—A Dallas Police Department officer was injured in a motorcycle crash while riding in President Obama’s motorcade on Monday, August 9, 2010. The crash occurred just after 4 p.m., at the intersection of Wycliff and Hartford, as reported by CBS 11.

Ray Demps, a witness to the crash said, “The officer made some wiggles on his motorcycle. Then he crashed and rolled.” Witness Barry Hutchings also recalled, “I saw the motorcycle flip when he tried to speed up. He gunned it, and I think he lifted the front wheel at the same time. And the whole thing just flipped.”

The officer who was involved in the crash was identified as Sr. Corporal Michael Manis, who was “relatively new” to the motorcycle pool.

A doctor who was traveling with the presidential motorcade treated the officer until emergency crews arrived. Manis was transported to Parkland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Manis is expected to make a full and complete recovery.
