Little Sioux, IA—A fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 29 killed four motorcyclists, when an oncoming pickup truck entered their lane and collided with them head-on. The quadruple fatality crash occurred around 6 p.m., in a construction zone along I-29, near Little Sioux, as reported by the Des Moines Register.
The motorcyclists were reportedly traveling southbound in a close formation on I-29, when they reached a stretch in the highway that reduced into two lanes, which were divided by cones. A red Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was traveling north, then crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with the bikers head-on.
Three of the motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The fourth biker was airlifted to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, where he succumbed to his injuries at 7:30 p.m.
The identities of the bikers are currently being withheld until their families were notified, but officials did say three of them were from Iowa and the fourth was from Nebraska.
The 21-year-old pickup driver was rushed to a hospital in Onawa for treatment of minor injuries. Police officials say that the driver had been drinking before the crash.
Officials said that only one biker had their helmet on, but the crash was so violent that the helmets probably wouldn’t have save their lives.
