Roseville, MN—A tragic accident, involving a homemade slingshot at a Roseville park, left a young boy dead on Sunday, August 1, 2010. The boy and a friend were playing with the slingshot at the Bruce Russell Park, just west of Lexington Avenue on Roselawn Avenue around 3:30 p.m., when the fatal incident occurred, as reported by TwinCities.com.
According to Roseville Police officials, the 12-year-old boy and a friend were at the park, shooting rocks out of a homemade, over-sized slingshot. The boys apparently tied a six-to seven-foot length of elastic tubing to a nine-foot-tall swing set, which was another piece of playground equipment to stretch out the tubing.
The boys were using the slingshot to fling rocks into the air, when they eventually moved up to a 6-pound rock. They apparently launched the rock several times before it came straight down and slammed into 12-year-old’s chest.
Responding emergency crews rushed to boy to Hennepin County Medical Center, where medical professionals pronounced him dead.
The name of the victim is currently being withheld. A full investigation is underway.
