Ogden, UT—A head-on crash in northern Utah killed five people as they tried to pass another vehicle along state Route 39. The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred near the Eagles Campground around 7:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 26, 2010, as reported by KSTU.
Weber County sheriff’s officers reported that five people, ages 16 to 22, who were on their way home from a camping trip, were trying pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, when they slammed into a Ford 7-350 head-on. The truck ended up on top of the Honda.
The collision killed all five people when the westbound Honda Accord they were riding in slammed into the oncoming pickup truck. None of the occupants were wearing their seat belt at the time. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Timothy Joe Arguello. Two of the passengers were identified as Fealina Espinoza, 16, and Todd Salazar, 22, all from Ogden.
The occupants of the pickup truck, a man, his wife and their baby, were not seriously injured in the wreck. They were wearing their seat belts and the baby was secured in its infant seat. It is unknown if they were taken to a hospital for treatment.
A full investigation into the fatal wreck is currently underway.
