Winston-Salem, NC—A 2-year-old girl was tragically killed when her mother’s unoccupied vehicle inexplicably ran her over. The fatal accident occurred on Monday, June 28, 2010, according to information provided by WXII12.com.

Reports indicated Gloria Noyola-Calleja drove her 1996 Dodge Caravan to 2916-A Ivy Avenue, where she parked the vehicle so she could retrieve her young daughter, Kaylee Oliva-Noyola. The tot was likely staying with family relative, Roberto Noyola, while her mother ran errands.

As Noyola-Calleja and her daughter stood next to the minivan, it began to roll backwards for unknown reasons. The driver’s door of the van was open at the time and consequently struck Noyola-Calleja and Kaylee. The impact caused Kaylee to fall beneath the moving vehicle.

Though Roberto Noyola managed to stop the minivan, Kaylee suffered traumatic injuries. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene to rush Kaylee to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The toddler sadly succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Noyola-Calleja was reportedly treated at the scene.

The Winston-Salem Traffic Enforcement Unit is conducting a full probe into the fatal incident. Police reported alcohol did not play a roll in the collision.
