Darrouzett, TX—Yet another natural gas line explosion occurred in Texas, making it the second fatal pipeline blast in two days. On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, two men were removing clay from a pit when a bulldozer struck the 14-inch pipeline, igniting the blast, as reported by MSNBC.

Officers reported the explosion occurred near Darrouzett, about 270 miles northeast of Lubbock.

The crew was reportedly digging up caliche, which is used for cement, for a dirt-contracting company. A bulldozer inadvertently struck the 14-inch gas line while the men were digging, causing the explosion.

Darrouzett resident, Rhonda Cochran said, “I was eight miles away from Darrouzett. You could see the flames. They were huge.”

Two workers were tragically killed in the blast. Authorities are withholding their identities until their families have been notified.

Three others workers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. One worker was transported by helicopter to a Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition. The two remained workers sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

DCP Midstream, the owner of the pipeline, let the fire burn itself out for nearly four hours following the explosion.

Tuesday’s explosion comes just one day after another fatal natural gas explosion about 50 miles from Dallas. One worker was killed and at least seven others were injured, when a utility worker accidentally struck and ruptured the gas line in rural Johnson County.

Officials are conducting a full investigation into the fatal natural gas pipeline explosion.
