Los Angeles, CA—A school bus on its way to the California Science Center for a field trip suddenly caught fire on the 101 Freeway. Two students are being treated for smoke inhalation following the May 19, 2010 incident, as reported by KTLA.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the fire was extinguished within 11 minutes. The raging fire started just before 9 a.m., in the Cahuenga Pass of the 101 Freeway. It is unknown what sparked the blaze.

Two students on board of the bus were transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. The students are reportedly in stable condition. Officials did not release the identities of the injured students.

Police stated there were about 40 students and 10 adults on the bus at the time of the fire. The students were from Flory Academy in Moorpark, and were on their way to the California Science Center when the fire was sparked. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that passing drivers stopped to help evacuate the students from the burning bus.

All southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway were shut down, causing major delays.

The L.A. Fire Department is conducting a full investigating into the fire.
