The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating a crash where a pedestrian was hit by a Ford Ranger pickup after crashing on I-70.

St. Louis, MO—A man who tried to walk to safety after his vehicle was involved in a wreck, was fatally hit by two passing cars on Interstate 70. The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 3:45 a.m., on the westbound lanes of I-70 near Route Z, or otherwise known as Church Street in Wentzville, as reported by SLToday.com.

Jeffrey M. Dominguez, 20, of O’Fallon, was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer when he lost control of his SUV. The SUV slammed into a concrete median, which spun the vehicle counterclockwise and came to a stop facing east in the westbound lanes. Dominguez then got out of his car and tried to walk to a safer area on the right shoulder of the highway. As he was walking a westbound Ford Ranger pickup truck apparently saw Dominguez walking in the road an began to slow down. He couldn’t stop in time and struck Dominguez, throwing him a several feet, where he was hit by another vehicle. The second vehicle fled the scene. Dominguez was pronounced dead at the scene by responding rescue crews.

Police officials currently do not know what caused Dominguez to loose control of his vehicle. The person driving the pickup truck was not sure what type of vehicle fled the scene after hitting the man.
