Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. The CPSC announced the voluntary recall of log sets and fireplaces due to gas leak and fire/explosion dangers.

Gas leak, fire and explosion hazards prompted a recall of log sets and fireplaces, as announced by the CPSC.

Nashville, TN—Lennox Hearth Products has participated in the voluntary recall of approximately 5,700 Superior VFGL Vent-Free Gas Log Sets and VF Vent-Free Fireplaces due to the gas leak and blaze hazards they pose to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the recall on Thursday, March 25, 2010.

According to the CPSC, “The front burners of vent-free gas log set fireplace inserts and the vent-free fireplaces can fail to ignite allowing gas to escape and posing a fire or explosion hazard to consumers.” Though no injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled log and fireplace sets, installers issued two complaints of the log sets “failing to light”.

The logs are made of ceramic-fiber and come equipped with a dual gas burner system, to be used in either a wood-burning fireplace or a vent-less fireplace enclosure. The vent-free fireplaces were sold with log sets and other accessories. The products’ model number, serial number and other information regarding the recalled log sets and fireplaces can be located on a metal rating plate, which is attached to the grate of the log sets or the frame of the fireplaces.
