Indiana personal injury attorney alerts- Suspect faces felony charges in connection with traffic crash that killed construction worker.
Lake Station, IN—State Police (ISP) officials have allegedly detained the motorist who fled the scene after fatally striking a construction worker on the Borman Expressway early Tuesday, March 16, 2010. The unidentified suspect was reportedly taken to an area hospital to be treated for the injuries he sustained in the accident and will be transferred back to the Lake County, Indiana jail upon his release, according to information provided by ABC News and earlier reports by Justice News Flash.
Before the suspect fled the scene of the traffic crash on foot, police officials reported that he had been conversing with the victim’s fellow construction employees after the accident. As previously reported, the motorist drove through the closed off lanes of the roadway, consequently plowing into a contractor at approximately 1:30 a.m. The construction worker, identified as Christopher Jenkins, 45, smashed through the windshield of the vehicle on impact, reportedly striking the driver inside the Mercury. Jenkins, a Walsh Construction worker, was seemingly pronounced dead at the scene.
The culprit was allegedly found after he contacted a family friend for help. The call was traced back to a pay phone in Lake Station, where police seemingly apprehended him. According to Indiana State Police deputy Ann Wojas, “The pending charges are going to be reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Both of those are felony charges.”
