The FAA and the NTSB are investigating a Piper Saratoga plane crash in Groveland, CA.

Groveland, CA—The backyard of a rural home in northern California was the site of a small plane crash that killed two people on Friday night, February 19, 2010. The small plane crashed around 7:20 p.m., near the Pine Mountain Lake Airport in Groveland, as reported by The Washington Post.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a single-engine Piper Saratoga plane traveling from San Carlos Airport to Pine Mountain airport crashed into the backyard of a rural home. The plane erupted into a fireball as the plane made impact; no one on the ground was injured nor was the house damaged. The two occupants, who have not been identified, were killed in the fiery crash. FAA officials reported that plane went down upon its approach to the Pine Mountain runway, when for unknown reasons it crashed in a backyard instead. When emergency responders arrived at the scene they reported it was raining, but they are unsure if it was raining when the plane crashed. It is unknown what caused the plane wreck. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) http://www.ntsb.gov/ are currently investigating the fatal plane crash.
