Massive 6.4 magnitude quake rocks southwestern Pakistan before dawn on Wednesday. Thousands left homeless in freezing temperatures with 170 confirmed dead. The U.S. Army and Muslim factions give aid.
Recent news October 29, 2008-Baluchistan province Pakistan: In the early morning hours of the Muslim nation a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck leaving villagers mourning the loss of family and property. There are reported estimates of 170 confirmed dead and over 15,000 left homeless. Survivors of the disaster faced near freezing temperatures in an already devastated area. Medical supplies, tents and blankets are already being flown in by the Army.
Pakistan continues to see devastation with natural and man-made disasters. The civilian government continues to battle attacks from the Taliban and al-Qaida. The Muslim country is dealing with massive economic crisis and the Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority is left with little resources to provide relief. Reports have surfaced several Islamic extremist organizations were also quick to provide aid to survivors. Jamaat-ud-Dawa a designated terrorist group by the United States government for its links to Muslim separatists is one such faction. At least, Baluchistan has been spared the high level of violence already present in the northwestern tribal areas bordering Afghanistan and the Himalayan regions of Kashmir India where Muslim extremists have been strong.
