Moreno Valley, CA—A multiple vehicle collision on the 15 Freeway killed a Moreno Valley High School football coach, his wife, and his two young children on Saturday, February 13, 2010. The fatal motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred around 12:35 p.m., on the 15 Freeway south of Jurupa Avenue, as reported by KTLA.

The fatal crash involved three semi-trucks, a U-Haul truck, and two passenger vehicles. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the deceased family was inside a vehicle that was sandwiched in between two big rigs that burst into flames. The two adults and two young children were pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews. The deceased victims were identified as Ryan Villalpando, 32; his wife Veronica Villalpando; their son Mateo, 4, and infant Bella Rose. Three other people sustained injuries in the wreck and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Their injuries were reported to be “non life-threatening.” A full investigation into the fatal wreck is ongoing. It is unknown how the crash occurred or how the chain of events played out. The southbound side of the 15 Freeway was shut down for several hours after the wreck while the CHP investigated and cleaned up the accident scene.
