San Francisco Bay, CA—One person was left dead after they pulled over on train tracks to yield for a fire truck en route to an emergency call. The car was then hit by train, which was passing through the area. The fatal crash happened on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, 2009, around 4:50 in Redwood City, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
According to police officials, Chuck Isaacson, 64, of Redwood City was driving a 1998 Honda Civic westbound on Whipple Avenue, when he pulled over to yield a fire truck en route to a structure fire on El Camino Real. The driver apparently pulled over on the railroad tracks and was not able to move his car as a Caltrain Baby Bullet approached. The Baby Bullet train was traveling at 60 mph and was not able to stop in time before hitting the Honda stuck on the tracks. The driver of the Honda, who was the only occupant, died at the scene of the tragic crash. The Honda and the crossing gates were reportedly completely destroyed in the collision. Police officials are reportedly conducting a full investigation into the crash
