- A federal judge dismissed a Justice Department lawsuit attempting to force casino magnate Steve Wynn to register as a foreign agent for allegedly lobbying for China during the Trump administration.
- The Justice Department sued in May over a court order forcing Wynn, the former CEO Wynn Casinos Limited WYNNto register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
- Officer allegedly Wynn lobbied then-US President Donald Trump on behalf of China in 2017. Wynn’s lawyers denied he was ever a Chinese government agent.
- Bloomberg reported Wynn would have Dinner with Trump in June 2017 and delivered China’s request to deny the visa extension application of Guo Wengui, a wealthy exile.
- Wynn’s lawyers reiterated their denial of the lobbying allegations. “This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed and the court agreed,” they said.
- The US had claimed Wynn’s lobbying campaign was motivated by a desire to protect its Macau casinos.
- “Wynn’s obligation to file a registration statement lapsed years ago, and the government cannot now compel him to register,” US District Judge James Boasberg said in a federal court in Washington.
