SANTA BARBARA, CA, October 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SunHydrogen, Inc. HYSRthe developer of a breakthrough technology to produce renewable hydrogen from sunlight and water, announced today that it has received the Indian Patent Office’s decision to grant its patent.Artificial photosynthetic cell with multiple transitions and enhanced photovoltages.”

That patentcurrently active in the US, Australia, China and Europe, is held jointly by SunHydrogen and the University of California Regents pursuant to the Company’s previous research agreement with the University of California, Santa Barbara.

This patent protects SunHydrogen’s semiconductor design, which features high-density arrays of high-voltage, nano-sized solar cells. This innovative structure serves as the core of the company’s nanoparticle technology.

In one of SunHydrogen’s nanoparticle-based hydrogen generation units, billions of nanoparticles per square centimeter break down water at the molecular level. These nanoparticles are made up of multiple layers of solar cells. The solar cells’ high-voltage and light-absorption properties allow the company to manufacture them ultra-thin and with significantly fewer materials, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

“This patent protects the basis of our technology,” said Tim Young, CEO of SunHydrogen. “This latest grant in India underscores our commitment to protecting our intellectual property, alongside our existing grants in the US, Australia, China and Europe.”

“We believe our nanoparticle technology has the potential to enable widespread access to low-cost green hydrogen in key sectors such as transportation, industry and shipping,” continued Mr. Young. “Our ambitions are particularly relevant in India, where the Department of Energy has make plans to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. We look forward to further expanding our patent portfolio in the coming years.”
