On August 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) released an investigative alert regarding a multi-state outbreak E. coli infections. The notice reported that “37 people have been infected with the outbreak strain coli O157 were reported from 4 states: Indiana (1), Michigan (15), Ohio (19), and Pennsylvania (2)” and that “most of the sick reported eating romaine lettuce sandwiches at Wendy’s restaurants before falling ill.” CDC further stated that “[b]Based on the information gathered to date, Wendy’s is taking the precautionary measure of removing romaine lettuce, which is used in sandwiches, from restaurants in this region.”
As a result of this news, Wendy’s stock price fell $0.81 per share, or 4.01%, to close at $19.39 per share on August 26, 2022.
