Architecture firm DesignGroup (Columbus, Ohio) has partnered with Norton Healthcare of Louisville, Kentucky to create the Norton Neuroscience Institute (NNI). The goal is to provide an integrated clinical space dedicated to brain health.
The 47,000-square-foot project includes two floors of an existing medical office building. The idea of ??a one-stop shop transformed into a central hub and adjacent spoke departments.
The central hub simplifies wayfinding with greeters at the entrance. The third floor is a specialist clinic with 55 examination rooms. The fourth floor houses the Cressman Neurological Rehabilitation Center, a multidisciplinary clinic comprised of neurodiagnostic services, pain management, and the Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center.
Opening in May 2021, NNI creates a sense of calm and relaxation through ample natural light and a conversational seating cluster. Neuro-inspired artwork and interactive design elements provide a high-tech and museum-like factor.
Considering the mobility of users, the use of wider corridors between each clinical cabin allows for easy access to the examination room and allows more natural light to spill from the outside.
Staff spaces are arranged around the perimeter of the clinical spaces, giving them the freedom to collaborate and share resources across the different centers. Staff spaces utilize furniture solutions for maximum flexibility. Additionally, spaces are planned for concentrated and collaborative work.
