A Mount Vernon medical facility will pay the federal and state governments $120,000 to settle settlements for illegally imported drugs from foreign countries.

U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle says Skagit Family Health Clinic imported contraceptive pills not approved by FDA, Skagit Valley Herald report.

“FDA approval is a critical way for government healthcare programs to ensure patients have access to appropriate medicines and devices,” U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington Nick Brown said in a news release. “We have no evidence that any patients were harmed by these unapproved drugs, But government programs cannot pay customers to take on such risks.”

Under the terms of the pre-litigation settlement, the clinic will pay the state $72,000 and the federal government a little over $48,000.

The money will repay the government’s share of Medicaid costs paid between 2015 and 2020.

The U.S. Department of Justice resolved the matter on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General, the state attorney general’s office and the state health care agency.
