Fertilization and Building Management Systems

While indoor cultivation allows growers to produce cannabis year-round in a fully controlled and clean environment, there are still many moving parts to manage.

That’s why we use fertilization and building management systems designed for indoor operations. Not only does it help us deliver accurate nutritional recipes to our grow rooms multiple times a day with incredible precision, but it also monitors and controls environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and light intensity.

LED lighting

At CULTA, we have aggressive goals to reduce our carbon footprint.

One of the first improvements we made to achieve this was to upgrade our lighting to LED. Being able to control our lighting not only allows us to enrich the plant’s cannabinoid, terpene, and flavonoid content (which makes our medical patients happy!), but also helps us achieve significant operational cost savings. Plus, they are a better choice for the environment.

When looking for an LED lighting supplier, they focused on providing lighting to commercial cannabis growers, which was important to us and that’s why we chose fluency.

Ozone generator

Healthy cannabis plants start with clean water, which is why we have invested in state-of-the-art ozone generation systems for our crops. This system destroys any pathogens that may be present in the water, so our plants only drink water that is as clean as possible.

Dissolved oxygen helps keep the root zone clean, healthy and pathogen-free. As an added bonus, it also helps keep our irrigation lines clean and sanitized, which also reduces our maintenance and repair costs over time.

We use the DRAMM water ozone system, which is designed to improve efficiency and safety.

Environmental Monitoring System

In addition to the Priva system, we also use a Earth Scout Environmental monitoring system.

We use this system to develop irrigation, lighting and environmental strategies specific to each strain. Yes, you read that right – we use this system to create “recipes” for every strain we grow.

The system uses multiple sensors to monitor soil moisture, temperature, salinity, air temperature and humidity, and other environmental factors. We’re just getting started with this system, so we don’t have any data to share, but we hope it will help us reduce irrigation and nutrient costs by at least 50%.

Cannabis technology is changing

The best thing about cannabis technology is that it’s constantly changing. New, innovative products are always released month after month, and for each breakthrough product, there are more than a dozen that come and go without fanfare, making it hard to decipher what lies ahead.
