Last week I had my very first Covid 19 experience since the start of the pandemic. Unfortunately, as my immune system can be a little whacky, I didn’t have the best time. Even though this variant is supposed to be a bit more chill than the previous boys, but I’m definitely taking a bit longer than I thought I would to recover. So I thought I would have a look at how the virus has affected me and a few others I know and find some good strains to help you get up and about after your isolation is over. I reckon I’ll go through by symptom and find you a few strains that could help with it.

Lethargy

I’m starting with this one because it’s definitely been the worst for me. Every day since the road to recovery began I’ve slept till midday and I’m usually an 8 am kinda gal. If your body is dealing with something attacking it that hard you’re going to be exhausted for a while. For most of us we need to get right back into the real world as soon as we are no longer infectious so here are a few strains that can perk you up and keep you running smoothly.

Mango Haze

This delicious strain is best known for its deliciously fruity flavour and scent. It is powerful and euphoric with an uplifting and cerebral high. While you’re struggling to get out of bed Mango Haze can give you the energy and the pep you need to get through your day like a regular person. The strains that created this plant have won countless awards so it comes from excellent stock. Of course, this strain is primarily Sativa and produces an amazing amount of resin. It has a flowering time of 8 – 11 weeks and will grow well indoors or in a greenhouse.

Jack Herer

This classic is perfect for getting back on your feet with its uplifting and powerful full body effect. This strain is a multi-award winner with fantastic genetics. The strain is named after Jack Herer, the well known weed activist and author of “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”. This strain is also great for improving appetite in case you have lost yours and so have even less energy due to a lack of fuel. Jack Herer has a flowering time of 8 weeks and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Depression / Anxiety

One of the things I really realised during my time being unwell was how intense the isolation is. I mean I have a high risk flatmate so I had to stay in my bedroom as much as possible for a week and a half. For most of us isolation is a very solitary time, we can’t go outside or see anyone in person and that can foster some pretty severe depression especially if your mental health isn’t already great.

Harlequin CBD

This is the ultimate uplifting strain, as you might be able to guess from the name. This version is CBD heavy which is perfect if you need to get out and about and just don’t want to get too high. Harlequin CBD is relaxing, soothing and uplifting. It won’t induce anxiety, in fact it will usually soothe it, and it’ll give you the boost you need to get out of bed. Something I haven’t actually been able to do yet today. If you ‘re not looking for something too powerful this strain is great. The THC level is only around 6% which makes it more therapeutic than most strains. It has a flowering time of 56 – 63 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse. This strain is ideal for anxiety, stress, and pain which can be helpful if you still have a headache.

OG Kush

Most of you will already be aware of this fantastic classic strain. OG Kush is often prescribed to those who are suffering from depression and PTSD. This strain is extremely uplifting and has a delicious aroma and flavour of lemon and spice. This strain has a variety of genetics including Pakistani Kush, Chemdawg and Lemon Thai. It has a flowering time of 8 weeks and grows well indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Muscle Pain

After lying around all week and not being able to do a whole lot of anything my muscles were really starting to hurt. This combined with the muscle pain that comes with covid meant that as I was trying to get back to it I was also struggling with a good amount of body aches.

Cannatonic

This is another therapeutic strain that has a low amount of THC and a high amount of CBD. Not only is this strain great for mental and emotional issues but it can be fantastic for the physical aspects of recovery. Medicinally this strain is a great strain for inflammation, muscle spasms, and nausea. Cannatonic only has 6% THC and also 6% CBD so again it won’t actually get you very high.

Do Si Dos

This strain is powerful and energetic with a fantastic muscle easing, pain killing high. It has a delicious sweet lemon scent that makes it an absolute pleasure to smoke. This strain is a bit more indica heavy and may not be ideal for outdoor use. However , if you are looking for some at home pain relief it’s an excellent choice. The THC content is pretty high at 20% so it’s definitely not one of the most functional strains. Rest is important so if you are struggling due to discomfort and pain this strain can help you chill out. This train has a flowering time of 70 – 75 days and can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse.

Smoking

After something like covid I’d recommend finding ways to take in your weed without smoking. This virus tends to go for the lungs, I know it definitely went for mine, so maybe try to stick to tinctures, edibles and maybe vapes until you’ re feeling completely better.
