Hedera’s public ledger consensus service was recently used to “collect, store and order” millions of data points in a drone data trial sponsored by the British government.

according to announcement, Hedera collaborated with London-based aerospace technology company Neuron Innovations to test commercial, military and government drones to safely share long-range airspace.

Neuron has implemented an “Aviation Surveillance as a Service” system that allows drones to seamlessly join existing air traffic. The aerospace technology company then used Hedera Network’s Hedera Consensus Service to “collect, store and order” drone data. Neuron CEO Niall Greenwood said:

“We use aviation infrastructure that is critical to safety to make unmanned long-distance drone travel possible. Millions of data points are created for each flight, and no other public ledger can record fast enough and sort it correctly. .”

Multi-drone trials will be held at Montrose Port in Scotland and Cranfield University in Bedfordshire in April and October 2021. The Neuron sensor records data points about the drone’s position and direction, while the Hedera Consensus Service records and timestamps the collected data. Each drone is on its decentralized public ledger.

The experiment is supported by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy of the United Kingdom and is one of many drone-related tests. The main finding of the study is that the drone can be tracked after it leaves the field of view.
