Dear Dedley: Obviously I am in danger of “let everything go south”.

I am 29 years old and have two children, and my 65-year-old mother-in-law did her best to disappoint me.

I did gain weight during pregnancy, but I worked hard to recover and return to my clothes before pregnancy

I can cope, but my 35-year-old husband never supports me. He just smiled and told me that I was sensitive.

Each question will receive a personal answer, usually within 24 hours of the working day.

When I was overweight, she would warn me to cut out the “trash” and explain that my husband’s eyes would wander.

Then, when I start to lose weight, she will teach me how to become “skeletal.”

I can’t win! I think she might be jealous.

She even joked about how I would struggle if I contracted Covid.

No problem is too small, too big or too embarrassing. Read our personal response here.

Dedley said: When you say you think she might be jealous, you hit the nail on the head. Her criticism is more indicative of her own low self-esteem than anything else.

Next time she insults you, calmly tell her that her depreciation is unacceptable and you will not tolerate them anymore. The key is to stay confident while remaining calm.

Explain to your husband how frustrated you are, and you will thank him for his support.

I will send you a support package about “Stand Up for Yourself”, which will help you in two conversations.

The next one is today dear DEIDRE Since I contracted Covid earlier this year, my hair has been thinning
