Investigators said they will seek international help to locate and detain the former president and other officials.
As part of the money laundering and corruption investigation, El Salvador’s Attorney General’s Office has ordered the arrest of former President Salvador Sanchez Salen and nine senior officials of the previous government.
The office said on Thursday that although Sanchez Salen was abroad, five former senior members of the government of former President Mauricio Funes had been detained between 2009 and 2014. Officials wanted include former heads of the Ministry of Health, Finance, Labor, Agriculture and Environment.
Sanchez Ceren (Sanchez Ceren) served as vice president when he was involved in a crime involving money laundering, embezzlement of public funds, and unauthorized transfer of funds to get rich illegally. He will become president in the next term.
“They are favored in paying bonuses,” the attorney general’s office said in a statement.
At the press conference, Attorney General Rudolf Delgado added that he will seek international help to find Sanchez Salen.
“We have issued an arrest warrant, and later we will ask Interpol to issue a red alert to activate its search mechanism for Salvador Sanchez Salen,” he said.
Incumbent President Nayib Bukele described his predecessor as a “fugitive” and left the country in December 2020.
Booker has also been blamed for a series of controversial actions, including the removal of the attorney general and five Supreme Court justices, and the closure of the anti-corruption office.
Sanchez Seren and other members of the Funes government belonged to the Farabondo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), the left-wing party that Buquer represented early in his career, but was accused of spreading divisions and violating party statutes. Was rejected.
Booker denied these allegations.
In May of this year, the United States stated that five members of the Buckler’s government and opposition figures are working “Credibly accused” of corruption.
